OBUS SUMMER 23

i am usually quite conservative when it comes to colour, but i am rather enamoured with destino mexico!, the summer 23 collection from obus.  inspired by"papel picado cutouts, photographs of frida, flowers, turkish embroideries and beautiful beaded necklaces from india", it conjures the best aspects of summer. plus the obvious nod to the style of frida kahlo is a definite winner in my opinion.

caro-line: i completely get where you're coming from - i always find it strange when people say that music doesn't resonate with them. i have never heard of sea wolf - i love the band title! feel free to hijack my comments anytime :)

camila: thanks again for locating the quote.

koey: a rush of blood to the head was one of my favourite albums a few years back, but it is funnily enough one that i can't listen to anymore because of the personal memories i have associated with it.

hanna: i have seen beginners and i highly recommend it!

wishcandy: the radio dept. are one of my favourite bands of all time. i love the john hughes soundtrack idea - it's so true!

megan taylor: good choices. i am a big fan of washed out and white hinterland in particular.

nancy baric: one of my friends lent me their first album a few years back and i really enjoyed it.

primoeza: i've been enjoying their album too (although without the ny references!). you're really welcome for the link - congratulations again x

tilly: ozzi kotani sounds great - will have to check him out.

amy: yes, how delightful was christopher plummer! the friend who i saw it with noted how charming he is for an older gentleman.

vintageveggie:  agreed :)

tana: i love listening to music according to the seasons as well. it sounds as though you have a nice autumn soundtrack.

schorlemädchen: i hope you enjoyed it!

the line sheet: i am pleased to hear that you like her music as much as i do.

see hear say: metronomy's album is definitely on my top 10 for 2011. will have to check out designers.mx - i've never heard of it.

gerlin: i completely get what you mean. there are a number of albums in my collection that i can't listen to anymore because they take me back to times that i don't particularly want to remember or mull over. it is frustrating how personal experiences can ruin music sometimes. thanks for the tips - i always enjoy your music recommendations. also, i am not surprised by what you said re: the new girls album. i have listened to the songs that jarri has posted from it and i am not really digging it.

  3. You could pull off some of these colourful looks, 4 and 5 in particular!

Hey, I meant to reply to your previous post, but yeah, I wouldn't mind a lend of that Anna Karina film. I was present at a party where a university lecturer we both know and a friend of mine argued about the merits of Godard (the lecturer didn't like him). In the end, my friend said, "Well, at least he was smart enough to cast Anna Karina a bunch of times."

And in terms of the previous post's query about music, I think this year will be summed up by my love of two albums - Fucked Up's 'David Comes To Life' and Beyonce's '4'. Otherwise, the new Horrors album and the new Antlers album are ones I've listened to that I think you'd like!

  7. I just finished reading a bit about this collection in the latest frankie! (bit late to get my hands on it, I must admit). That swimsuit and tote combo is going to be my summer beach inspiration.
