KYU

it is no exaggeration to state that kyu hwang is one of my favourite artists, so i couldn't resist sharing the photographs that he recently captured of his studio and a small selection of his work. kyu is also the artist behind the wonderful illustrations that accompany joanne's superb musical project, ten minutes...not to mention that his tumblr is beautifully curated.

tristan: i don't know if you would like the film, but i think you would probably be rather fond of the main actress, monia chokri.

steph: haha - i am probably at the late twenties stage of introspective angst. it's definitely worth watching for the cinematography. let me know what you think if you see it x

that kate: i hope you like it and don't want to come after me following your viewing!

tana: ah, that is a coincidence! yes, i don't think we can hold his age against him - he's pretty talented for someone so young. and i agree - the repetition of "bang bang" was perfect for the film.

anne and sally: thank you!

floddertje: i haven't seen j'ai tué ma mère yet, but i will probably check it out in the future.

koey: you will have to have a movie binge soon to make up for it! and thank you :)

nancy: that is incredible - what a small world.

camila f.: i think you'll probably like the new wave influences.

vivi: yes, the english "translation" of the title is pretty bad. i think it strips the title of its meaning and doesn't seem connected to either the plot or the themes of the film. and it does have a bit of a the dreamers feel - both aesthetically and in terms of the love triangle.

sundari: it came out last year, so it's relatively new. it didn't get a big cinematic release in australia and was predominantly screened at festivals, so that's probably why it's not terribly well known. i will have to look for love for life.

audrey: i felt the exact same way as you: i thought it looked magnificent, but the characters were so shallow and vulgar that they ruined the film a bit.

rebecca: haha - yes, few people can come close to maggie.

joy: wong kar-wai forever!

amanda jane: yes, me too.

kristina: thanks - that's a real compliment coming from you. and do keep up the writing/photography project - i am looking forward to seeing it develop.

mandy: oh, i am as well. i think i spend more time than i should scouring the interiors and sets of films than concentrating on the main action.

  4. What an interesting set of images. I like how whimsical the drawings are, especially knowing that it wasn't a girl that drew them. The whale on the guitar is great..love it.

  7. Creative atmosphere what can be better? may be the guitar with a whale? or the shelves with all the things accurately arranged?(that is to disprove the cliché creative person=a mess). personally i like the hieroglyph (i suppose:) on the wall, quaint images you see in it if you hypnotize. and a cloud with colourful drops :)

  9. I am rather partial to a messy workspace….I've just moved into a new one and I can't wait for it to get a patina of creativity like this one. At the moment it's too organised and tidy!!
