stroll

oh, to stroll in paris. strolling is a science, the eye's gastronomy. to go for a walk is to vegetate. to stroll is to live.
- balzac

bonjour! i have spent the past six days strolling the beautiful streets of paris. not much time for blogging, unfortunately, but i will have some images of my parisian adventures to show you soon. i am going to make the most of the three days i have left here. i hope that you're all very well.

antoine doinel

les quatre cents coups (1959)

antoine et colette (1962)

baisers volés (1968)
domicile conjugal (1970)

l'amour en fuite (1979)

i have had quite a few sleepless nights in the lead up to leaving for my trip so rather than tossing and turning i have spent the wee hours of the night with antoine doinel. if you are not familiar with antoine he is a character played by jean-pierre léaud in five films by françois truffaut. starting with the four hundred blows, when léaud was only 13 years old, the subsequent films follow antoine through his teenage years, his twenties and then thirties. eternally childlike, mischievous, bourgeois and parisian, hopelessly romantic, silly and handsome, one cannot help but be charmed. i fell in love for a second time re-watching the films. highly recommended for a nice night in or to make insomnia slightly more bearable :)

love is all that matters...

lately

i just want to snuggle under a blanket with a cup of tea while listening to the radio dept. "pulling our weight" is one of my favourite music videos. what are your plans for the weekend?

a big giant thank you to everyone who commented on my previous paris post. i am travelling there to present a paper at a conference and to do thesis research, but I will hopefully have time for frivolous fun and will try to keep this space updated with photographs and snippets.

dans paris

i am leaving for paris in two weeks. i have been organising the trip for a while and i can't believe that it is almost here! my experience has shown that my blog friends have the best taste, so if you have any tips or parisian must sees, please leave me a message. the last time i was in paris was 13 years ago and i am need of an update. i'll be trying to fit in as much as possible before heading to scotland. merci in advance.

two weeks

how wonderful is this? who would have known that grizzly bear's song "two day" would work so perfectly with imagery from le ballon rouge...

i hope you're all well :)

for today

it is a gloriously grey and rainy weekend here that is perfect for nesting, so here are some delightful table settings and objects from cinq via mieke willems. i would especially love to sit at their breakfast table and eat a soft boiled egg. i hope you're all having a happy weekend!

frànçois

here is something gentle and lovely to start the week. have you heard of frànçois? i'm not even sure how i found him, but he is a french lad living in the uk who makes charming music, watercolours and sketches. just have a little listen and you might be enchanted too.

thank you for all of the virtual hugs in my last post - they really made my day.

makiko sugawa

"in private time, we remove not only makeup of the face, but also makeup of the heart. so then, the real desires and instincts of a woman are released...i want to express the precise beauty of eroticism. i want to catch the skin and its essentials, which are not shown usually. we can see the essentials of eroticism by peeping into a defenceless person's private life."
